Fly Fishing South Platte River

South Platte River

Deckers, CO

Deckers is one of our favorite places to provide guided fly fishing due to the stunning beauty, the ability to fish year round, and the chance for the trophy of a lifetime.

The South Platte River is one of the more renowned rivers in Colorado. Anglers come from all over the world to test their ability to fish this gold medal water.  Even some of the more challenging days are worth the trip. Due to its popularity and proximity to Denver this river receives a great deal of pressure and you will constantly hear the saying “If you can catch trout in the South Platte you can catch a trout anywhere in the world.”  The scenery is breath taking with the large boulders, deep holes, wide ripples, and abundant wild life.  The bug life on the river is dynamic and is well known for its wild trophy population of brown and rainbow trout.

Waterton Canyon is located just outside of Denver near Chatfield Lake. This is a great place for beginners. Make sure you bring your camera because there will be a good chance you will see Bighorn Sheep, Mule Deer, Elk, Beavers, Bald Eagles, and Rams. Don’t forget our walking shoes, the farther you walk the better the fishing.
